Isla Grande and Portobelo National Park have Gorgeous Caribbean Beaches!
Isla Grande has a single beautiful stretch of perfect Caribbean beachfront, with palm trees draping shade over the few sunbathers and surfers using the sand. For more variety of beaches and scenery you can take a short boat ride to the mainland, following the Portobelo road to reach beautiful beaches along the Atlantic. Protected and maintained by the same natural forces that have always shaped this sleepy area, the beaches are stunning examples of white seafront sand leading to deep blue waters.
Portobelo National Park has 70 kilometers of oceanfront beaches that make up a large proportion of the park. Sheltered by the nearby mangrove outcrops the beaches feel like gentle inlets, with crystal transparent waters lapping on to fine sand.
The beaches to the north of the park are the nesting grounds of large sea turtles, with the endangered hawksbill turtle laying eggs in the low lying sands here. Isla Grande beach is close to the island’s amenities, with the legendary diving in Portobelo mere steps away thanks to large banks of coral offshore.
